Biography
Fire Chief Joseph A. Miller
Chief
Joseph A. Miller is the fire chief for the North Bay Fire Control District.
He has been an active member of the department for over fifteen years and
a career employee of the fire district since 1991.
He progressed through the ranks from firefighter to Assistant Chief.
He was appointed as Fire Chief on April 12, 2005.
Chief
Miller is a graduate of
Strongsville
Senior High School
,
Strongsville
,
Ohio
. Following graduation,
he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He
was an aircraft hydraulic systems specialist.
He completed both the
Air Force Noncommissioned Officer
Leadership
School
and the
Noncommissioned Officer
Academy
. He retired in 1990 in the rank of
Master Sergeant. His military awards
and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal with device, the
Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal (two awards), Air Force
Good Conduct Medal (seven awards) and several Outstanding Unit Awards.
Chief
Miller holds Florida Certificates of Compliance as both a Firefighter and
Firesafety Inspector and certificates of Competency as Fire Officer I and
Instructor I and is a
Florida
certified Emergency Medical Technician. He
has been trained to the Technician level for Hazardous Materials.
He is a Basic Life Support Instructor for the American Safety and Health
Institute. Chief Miller attended
Pensacola
Junior College
where he received a degree in Fire Science Technology.
Chief Miller has completed advanced study through the
Florida
State
Fire
College
,
Pensacola
Junior College
and the
National
Fire
Academy
.
His
professional associations include: International
Association of Fire Chiefs, Florida Fire Chiefs Association and the Okaloosa
Fire-Rescue Organization.
Chief
Miller is married and has six children.
