Board of Fire Commissioners

September 9, 2009

· Call to Order: Chairman Miller called the Board of Fire Commissioners’ meeting to order at 8:10 p.m.

· Old Business

The minutes of the August 11, 2009 meeting were reviewed. Commissioner Santner made a motion to accept the minutes as written, motion seconded by Commissioner Schaal. Commissioner Miller voted in favor, Commissioner Santner voted in favor, Commissioner Reed voted in favor, and Commissioner Schaal voted in favor. All in favor, motion carried.

The August 31, 2009 Financial Statement Report was reviewed. Commissioner Schaal made a motion to accept the Financial Statement Report as written, motion seconded by Commissioner Reed. Commissioner Miller voted in favor, Commissioner Santner voted in favor, Commissioner Reed voted in favor, and Commissioner Schaal voted in favor. All in favor, motion carried.

Chairman Miller turned the meeting over to Fire Chief Miller to report on new business.

· New Business

Fire Chief Miller informed the Board of Fire Commissioners that during the month of July 2009, the North Bay Fire Control District received $11.77 of Ad Valorem money from the Okaloosa County Tax Collector’s Office. Any monies received from the Tax Collector are directly deposited into our Money Market account with Bank of America.

Fire Chief Miller informed the Board of Fire Commissioners that the North Bay Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF, Local 3505, and the North Bay Fire Control District are finalizing their negotiations for a new Union Contract.

Fire Chief Miller announced to the Board of Fire Commissioners that Firefighter James Harris passed his Paramedic National/State Written Examination. Congratulations to James for successfully completing his Paramedic Course.

Fire Chief Miller informed the Board of Fire Commissioners that Mr William J. Grant was appointed as the 5^th Board Trustee to the North Bay Firefighters’ Pension Trust Fund Board. This is a two-year term. The term ends on August 11, 2011.

Fire Chief Miller informed the Board of Fire Commissioners that on August 17, 2009, the North Bay Firefighters’ Pension Trust Fund received their State Warrant in the amount of $57,884.45. This warrant constitutes the revenue due to the North Bay Firefighters’ Pension Trust Fund under Chapter 175, Florida Statutes, for calendar year 2008. The warrant was deposited into the Pension Trust Fund account.

Fire Chief Miller announced the “Employment Anniversary” for the month of September to Captain Phil LeBrun (September 4^th) for 4 years of dedicated service to the North Bay Fire Control District. Congratulations to Captain LeBrun for a job well done!

Assistant Fire Chief Jordan presented the Board of Fire Commissioners with the Assistant Fire Chief’s Report for August 2009.

Assistant Fire Chief Jordan presented the Board of Fire Commissioners with the August 2009 Fire Incident Run Report. The North Bay Fire Control District responded to a total of 90 incidents: 9 structure fires; 4 accidents; 40 medicals; 12 cancelled Enroutes; 7 false alarms/alarm activations; 5 good intents; 1 hazardous materials and 12 service calls. This brings the total to 572 alarm runs for the year. Dollar loss for the year is $161,000.00.

Fire Marshal Losinger presented the Board of Fire Commissioners with the Fire Marshal’s Report for August 2009.

Division Chief Parker presented the Board of Fire Commissioners with the District’s Training Report for August 2009.

Chairman Miller asked if there were any comments from the floor before adjournment. There were no other comments.

The next Board of Fire Commissioners’ Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., at the North Bay Fire Control District, Niceville, Florida 32578.
